Hitting a Bull’s Eye with Upper Cervical Care!
In January 2017, after my husband blacked out while having his hair cut by me at our home – my search was on to determine what was wrong. Having your loved one sitting in a chair, slumped to one side with their eyes wide open but no response or recognition that lasted about 15-20 seconds tends to push you to get to the cause of such an occurrence. Keeping in mind he had been diagnosed with cervical vertigo by a neurologist (and by vertigo meaning extreme dizziness, violent vomiting, tinnitus, and hot/cold sweats for about 4-6 hours – then taking a few more weeks to have the dizziness completely subside). These issues had already been ruled out as being due to BPPV by an ENT doctor. Also knowing that his blood pressure was fine, his blacking out was not due to low blood sugar level since he had eaten during the day, and otherwise nothing else except neck/spine issues that could have caused his blacking out since he had spent time shaving and trimming his facial hair earlier that day which can put a person’s neck in awkward positions and had caused him vertigo in the past.
A search of the Internet ended up leading me to Orthospinology. That in turn led me to The Society of Chiropractic Orthospinology where we luckily found Dr. Tim Kesemann who was located within an hour of our home. A quick call on a Monday morning to the Odessa Chiropractic Center with an explanation of the situation had us in for an appointment that same afternoon. Dr. Tim, Tammy and Samantha are wonderful! The care they showed upon our arrival was greatly appreciated and Dr. Tim being able to thoroughly yet quickly explain what the basic x-rays and testing they had taken showed then allowed my husband to be able to receive his first upper cervical adjustment. Immediately the nausea and dizziness stopped.
My husband began his relief care with Dr. Tim and within a few weeks from a review the doctor made of a head/neck MRI (from a previous visit to a neurologist) Dr. Tim was able to determine that my husband had Chiari Malformation 0. What a relief to now know what had been causing his vertigo along with arm/hand/finger numbness, tinnitus, and the pressure in the back of his head he had been experiencing for over two years that had gotten progressively worse! And that Dr. Tim could treat it!!
From my husband’s experience and the information we received from Odessa Chiropractic Center we now have a better understanding of how the atlas/axis affect the central nervous system and the rest of the body. I also have begun upper cervical relief care and it has done wonders to address my low back issues, plantar fasciitis, foot numbness, and even night sweats! Sharing the information with my parents (who are in their mid-70s) got them interested to see if upper cervical care could address their issues. So far with my mom it has been helpful in getting her neck and shoulder pain to stop, eliminating the tilt to her head, she no longer experiences trigger thumb, and her involuntary body movements have decreased. My dad’s low back pain is gone, he sleeps better, is not up multiple times a night to urinate, and his essential tremors have also slowed down.
We have all discussed that we are in this for the long haul. In saying this we know that this is not an overnight fix – and that is not normally what people want to hear. It takes time and dedication to get better. And as my husband was told, “You’ll just have to learn to live with your issues”, we all agree that finding Dr. Tim and his team have made a difference for us and would suggest that anyone who truly wants to get better to take the time to see if upper cervical care would be a good option for them! For us, we definitely hit a bull’s eye for our health! Thanks Dr. Tim, Tammy and Samantha!!!!
l so much better.
